“My trust in God flows out of the experience of his loving me, day in and day out, whether the day is stormy or fair, whether I’m sick or in good health, whether I’m in a state of grace or disgrace. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am.” – Brennan Manning
Romans 8:28 tells us, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
How do we know that things will work out for our good? Because we trust God. Psalm 37:4-6 says, ” Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”
We must commit everything we do to God, in doing so….HE WILL ACT on our behalf.
I believe the biggest test of trust comes through attacks of sickness and disease on our bodies. In most cases, we tend to “handle” things on our own. But when it comes to sickness and disease we are pretty much backed into a corner. There is nothing we can do of or in ourselves to bring restoration. We can see various doctors, take recommended treatments but complete healing lies in God. God may choose to use doctors or He may choose to work a miracle. The question on the table is this…..are you willing to be a mechanism for God to use to display His grace, His mercy, His miracles, signs and wonders?
I personally have walked through many, many physical challenges in my body and God has made me an over comer of them all! When I put my complete trust in God and handed everything in my life over to Him…..He moved mightily!
One of my favorite testimonies to share is when I was being prepped for surgery to have part of my colon removed. As I laid on the hospital gurney I felt a warmth come over me (those that have been in a hospital room or surgical environment know these rooms are kept very cold), I then saw beams of light that were as tall as the ceiling, the white was so pure and bright but it didn’t hurt the eye to look at. These beams were aside each of the surgical staff. I then told the surgical staff God is here, He brings His peace and has sent His heavenly hosts to accompany each one of you. I then saw one of the beams of light out of the corner of my eye move to the head of my bed. The angel said, all is well, go to sleep. As I closed my eyes I heard the staff talking. They were asking one another if they had noticed the smell in the room….it was a sweet fragrance of flowers, they then said the room was warm and felt peaceful. As they stood and talked amongst themselves regarding what they were experiencing, I heard the head surgeon say….over 20 years I have performed this procedure, I always get sweaty hands prior to starting the surgery, today my hands are calm, I feel so relaxed…this is strange.
How many of us know that God will perform the unusual to show His hand in a situation. Everyone in that room felt the presence of God and couldn’t or even wouldn’t deny it.
When I awoke in recovery, the staff came in one and two at a time. They each told of the experience in the operating room. They were in awe! They all drew closer to God that day. The testimony didn’t end there…I saw the head surgeon a few weeks later. He entered the room, closed the door and sat down. The room was silent for several seconds. He then looked at me and said, in his culture they pray to many gods. But he knows that he had an encounter with the one and only living God on the day of my operation. He said it was an experience he will never forget and since that event has begun to read about the God I serve. He said, he still has many questions, its difficult coming across something that is so real but so opposite of what he was raised in. He still couldn’t explain the event but he knows he will never forget it and the experience will remain a part of him forever.
This is what the walk is about family! It wasn’t about my sickness….It was about me surrendering and being used for Gods glory. Many people were affected and changed by that experience in the operating room that day. I would go through the pain, the challenges in my body all over again because it brought me to that day…that moment…where Gods grace was manifested and lives were changed!
We need to confess Psalm 28:7 daily….it says, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”
I praise God for what I had to walk through to make it to that day! It was never about the surgery….it was never about me….it was about producing a conducive environment to allow God to be manifested and show His glory!
